Preserving our Culture and Heritage
Our proud Heritage
Tamu Dhee South Australia was formed in 2017 with the aim of generating awareness about the Gurung (Tamu) culture, traditions, festivals and current social activities among Nepalese living in South Australia and across the world. The Tamu (Gurung) community is one of Nepal’s oldest and most respected indigenous groups of Nepal. with a distinct culture, language and traditions that date back centuries. The term “Tamu” is what Gurung call themselves in their own language. historically believed to have migrated from Tibet and settled in the mid hill regions of Nepal.
Beyond Celebration the preservation of culture involves education, language conservation documentation of traditional practices.
